Aquarium

To win the struggle for attention in the fickle clubbing industry, the idea of installing a fish tank might appeal. It could be stocked with some brightly coloured tropical fish, maybe even a whelk or two.

The guys who run Aquarium on Old Street in east London thought 'Sod that'. They put in a full size swimming pool and encourage their more exhibitionist clients to swim about in designer togs. That, as they say in business, is a unique selling point.

Aquarium also had the great idea of converting a Shoreditch gym into a club in 1985, long before the district became the grubby nightlife mecca it is today. The 500 capacity venue also contains three bars and two dance floors.

The most famous night is the long-running 70s-themed Carwash.

Please note you must be over 18 to attend events at Aquarium.
