It's December 31, 2007 at the iconic Koko in Camden, London. On the bill, their names in lights, are Junior Jack and Kid Creme, two of the hottest names in house music. All present are shivering with... anticipation.
The place is full to bursting. So too is the rather diminutive dj on before the main act.
"When I came on I thought my head was going to pop," the boy man in question Jack Michaels (below) told us last night. "It was probably the scariest, most exciting thing of my life."
Understandable really, especially given the extreme brevity of Jack's career - he started playing professionally just last year.
However the star in the making already has friends in high places and elicited an endorsement from none other than SW4 main man Damian Gelle who says "Jack Michaels is still so young, at the same time I can put him on before the big house stars like Roger Sanchez and Junior Jack and Kid Creme and have total confidence that he will play what is required for such difficult slots."
Since then little Jack's played overseas for the first time, in Prague, then in the Med's party capital Ibiza, London's Ministry of Sound, Fabric and SeOne, the last of which contains an arch which is to be hosted by Jack's precocious record label Grin at the guaranteed massive Moondance.
But before that orgy of rave there's Summit's third birthday at the converted church Mass in Brixton. Even a cursory glance at the line up reveals a pacey team with Paul Glazby, Andy Farley and Cally Gage on the hard dance side, plus hardcore stars Hixxy and Billy Bunter.
What's it like playing house when the rest of the place is bosh central? we enquired.
Jack: It's different. I get to play a bit more versatile, tunes I wouldn't play to a normal house crowd, it's a lot more fun. This bpm does turn up a bit. Summit it usually goes up to 132, 133. Everyone seems to like it like that.
Jack's assessment is almost certain to be reliable. Attend to confirm - tickets below.
